Well, we ladies must keep up appearances.
You've got a bahr? Oooh, yes, I'd be careful out there. You're right: bears and people DO NOT mix well. Esp. if you have idiots feeding them. That is just wrong and very dangerous.
We've got black bears here in SC, even down on the coast, like ya'll have.
Once every couple of years or so, I see a blurb in the paper that one has been sighted in/around residential areas but it's mostly up around Georgetown. Near Caro. I can't remember the last time one was spotted around Charleston, proper.
I never knew peas had been genetically engineered!
Peas are peas, are they not? I have heard of sugar-snap peas, but do tell what Lady peas are!
Oh, Beth, your cry of "This IS June, right???" is what we have been saying this month, too!

The bear has been relocated to a place where he can be safe from people and the people safe from him. As a former Fish & Wildlife employee, I agree that bears and people are not a good mix- have seen the photos (and touched the dead bears) that resulted. But, that said, it was kind of cool to have this bear visit our peninsula and grace us with his presence. He was an especially handsome bear, especially for spring. He looked well fed and fluffy- some spring bears can look pretty thin and scruffy. But, I'm glad he's back where he belongs in bear country. :-)
Sandi; I love sugar-snap peas- they're one of my favorites. I've never heard of Lady Peas, either. I have Snow Peas planted in my garden. :-) YUM!
Yes, it's still sweater weather, here, but it's supposed to get into the 70's this week- hooray! I hope you temps warm up, too!
Proserpina; Ooh! Sounds as though it will be TOO warm where you are! 90's and 100's are too warm for me- hope you can stay comfortable in the A/C!
we are also warming up here along with Pros but I believe we are only going to the mid 90's. No rain in sight for us. I have a drip hose on some of our newly planted trees. I had noticed they were getting droppy yesterday. We could use a really good rain. there is a rather large fire in the Croatan forest, it started as a controlled burn but got out of hand and covers several hundred acres now. We are getting lots of smoke from it. Its only 10-12 miles away as the crow flies.Lucky for us there is a river between us.
Good luck with that wild fire; I hope the winds are low. Please be safe! Fires have been known to jump rivers and lakes! (And it would make a real mess of your Portal View!)

Lady Peas are my very favorite summer delicacy and they are only available for a short time during the summer and you can only get 'em here in the South.
They are very good green but best when matured into the cream coloration. The small pods resemble kernels of fresh white corn cut from the cob and are just as tender and almost as sweet. Lady peas are best cooked with very little seasoning, nothing too heavy to mask over the delicate, buttery flavor. I hear tell some folks say white acre peas are the same and maybe so, I guess we a little slow down here, not up to changbut if you ever get your hands on some tiny, fresh picked lady peas, I think you'll be convinced otherwise.

The full name of Lady Peas is Lady Cream Peas, because of the creamy texture they can have - plus, some people do cook them with cream and (usually) ham.
They're very small, and just amazingly tasty. When I first started eating fresh lady peas, limas and butter beans, I couldn't believe the difference in taste. I'd always hated limas, especially - they seemed starchy and tasteless. But fresh? The best!
We're in the middle of good stuff, now - fresh tomatoes and sweet corn, peas and beans, canteloupe, etc. Great eating - but hotter than Hades, and I'm already late getting to work, since it's supposed to hit over a hundred today, with heat indices of 104-110. Welcome, summer! It's still better than welcoming Debby, though!

Linda; Those Lady Peas sound delicious! Wish we had them up here in New England. Our veggie growing season is just starting to get going; the first lettuce is about ready now- YUM!
