I am back in Alberta living a short distance to the North East of Edmonton. During the past four days I was reminded of our temperature fluctuations. Our body requires some time to adjust from -40c to +30c during the year.(-40 F/90 F) With the temperature now in the low +30 range, with no wind, it is tough to walk a short distance.
For those who deny we are going through, what I call, "an environmental shift" they are wrong. During my three years of living in the mountains in the interior of British Columbia the evidence was clear. Living in that small community meant that a person was always living outdoors. To help show you the difference I will upload some photos of the disaster that is quietly taking place.
I read a study done by a few researchers at the University of Oregon. It was easy to contact them and ask more questions. I was given a set of instructions, on how to take photos of trees, that had been cut down by strip mining. They went as far to let me upload the photos to the University so they could analyze them. It makes me as a Canadian feel great having such wonderful neighbors. What kind of question might you guess I would ask the researchers?
How much oxygen does a cedar or evergreen tree create in a year? They emailed me a 300 page document that explains how to do the calculations. The oldest of the cedar trees began growing, in the year 1632, 360 years ago. Pine trees were dated to 1812 a time when we last fought each other.
What point am I making about trees and an environmental shift? I am writing this as a friend to you and our "pale blue dot" as Carl Sagan called it. While listening and watching many environmental groups or "experts" many appear to me as folks with a hidden agenda. There are billions of dollars being given away to most to say the same thing with meaningless words.
When we take a journey on roads that are difficult to traverse we begin to see the real damage. Areas the size of Vermont are now treeless and not one tree is being replanted. Trees are the lungs of our planet and it is my belief that one of the lungs has collapsed.
