bawlf's parkland view

The snow pack and drifts are finally looking dissipated as the daily light lingers and temperatures become ever so slightly warmer. I don't even mind the extra cleaning of the dogs feet after walk - whatever will bring us closer to summer. Neighbour has been out often lately at dusk with his star gazing equipment - another sign of spring.

Carlos went to a different dog dare care yesterday. By all accounts it appeared he enjoyed the stay as he trotted up to as at the end of the day cheerful as always. But by 7:30 PM he was done for, laying on his back with his feet in the air snoring peacefully. Simba continues to do well, no perceptible difference in her behaviours that would indicate she has a heart problem.

Today calls for a chance of rain with partly cloudy skies. There will be a high of 7 °C. Winds presently are at ESE 6 km/h with a 50% chance of precipitation (water equivalent of 0.8 mm).

While on our break-of-dawn walk I noticed there was a definite smell of spring in the air. The earth is loosening up and absorbing the run off with all the resulting aromas emanating the promise of a new season. Especially striking was the dark sihouette of evergreens to the East with the red dawn rising and evaporating into deepening shades of a clear blue sky. I let Carlos and Simba dictate the speed and direction of our walk as they were intensly absorbed in the ...

Todays walk: While I was picking up Carlos' business I felt a sharp tug and Simba was gone like a gun shot - through the ditch and up a 5' embankment, underneath a barb wire fence commencing to run around in circles. In my surprise Carlos made good use of a loosened grip and he took off with his leash acting as a useless rudder. Calling them back was pointless as I saw a brown streak between them. Carlos was chasing a gopher towards Simba who took aim and snapped at...

Saturday was a replication of overcast skies with minimal snow flakes; however, the wind was 5 to 10 kmh stronger than usual producing a windchill that dropped the temperature 5 to 10 degrees below thermometer readings.I had a surprise while putting away the Saturday laundry and looking out the back window. A large wolf was standing beside the containment pond fence about 30 metres behind our house. It was a beautiful, very fit and healthy looking animal with a crea...

The average temperature for March 24 is 5 C. Compared to the high forecasted of -3C we are eight degrees colder than normal. The continuing cloudy skies with snow falling fairly consistently in the past few days is really draining the citizens who have endured one of the longest winters in the past few decades. Locally we do have conditions to be grateful for, as anybody can deduce by listening to the news lately.Carlos certainly isn't daunted by the snow, he just l...
